STUDENT FINANCE

Student Finance

Student finance is available in the UK and can help you financially while you study β€” here's everything you need to know.

Types of Funding

Tap each option to learn what it covers, how it's paid, and who typically qualifies.

Covers the full cost of your university tuition and is paid directly to your university on your behalf. Most UK, EU-settled and eligible residents automatically qualify β€” and you only start repaying once you're earning over the annual threshold.
Paid directly to you in instalments to help with rent, bills, food and travel while you study. The amount depends on where you live, your household income and whether you study in London β€” our advisors can help you estimate it.
A grant (not a loan) for students who are parents, paid directly to you to help with course-related costs like books, equipment and travel. It doesn't need to be repaid and doesn't affect other benefits.
If an adult depends on you financially (for example a partner who doesn't work), you may receive this grant on top of your loans. It's paid directly to you and does not need to be repaid.
Available for single parents, students receiving PIP, and other qualifying circumstances. It replaces part of your maintenance loan with grant funding you don't have to pay back.
Covers up to 85% of your childcare costs while you study and is paid directly to a registered childcare provider. You'll need at least one child under 15 (or 17 with special needs) in approved childcare.
Extra help for students with a disability, long-term health condition, mental health condition or specific learning difficulty. Covers specialist equipment, non-medical helper support, and travel β€” and does not need to be repaid.

Am I Eligible?

A quick 3-question check β€” this is guidance, not a full assessment. We'll confirm the details on a free call.

Are you a UK, EU, or settled resident?

Are you starting your course before you turn 60?

Is this your first degree (or do you have a valid reason for a second)?

Finance FAQs

Only the loans β€” grants like the Special Support Grant, Childcare Grant and DSA don't get repaid. Loan repayments only start once you're earning over the yearly threshold, and are taken automatically from your salary.
No. Student Finance loans don't appear on your credit file and don't affect your ability to get a mortgage or other credit.
Some international students qualify depending on residency status (for example those with Indefinite Leave to Remain or refugee status). Book a free call and we'll confirm exactly what you're entitled to.
You can apply as soon as you have a course offer β€” we recommend starting the application at least 8 weeks before your course begins so funds arrive in time.
